Just like technology, the medical field is ever evolving - and so is MPI. The world of telemedicine has changed tremendously since its inception nearly 50 years ago. Now telemedicine is more commonly used and as such we here at MPI have done the due diligence to ensure that we are experts in the field.
We are witnessing steady growth in Telemedicine, and this begs the question for the provider of how to accept payments for care provided in a virtual world? There are ongoing legislative discussions regarding APM’s (Alternate Payment Methods) and a push for telehealth organizations to mainstream telemedicine. As a result of this push, many insurance companies are beginning to acknowledge the need for, and benefit of, reimbursement. However, the question remains of how to accept payment for care that is provided in this non-traditional environment. While many providers may welcome self-pay patients simply because they do not come with the added burden of filing and managing insurance claims, it is also a two-edged sword with the new challenge of a need for a payment method that is timely for the practice and secure for the patient.
The solution to accepting these payments is an online gateway with an attached credit card processor. This option allows the provider to accept all Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express credit/debit cards, while eliminating the need for a face-to-face interaction with the patient; while also providing a secure and immediate method for the patient to settle their account. Unfortunately, gaining approval for this type of account and form of transaction can be a tedious and frustrating process. Thus, knowing how to submit the processing application properly the first time can turn the transaction from a decline to an auto approve.
