VEND is the leading cloud based retail POS in the world. Along with the intuitive retail and back end reporting, Mercantile Processing Inc. (MPI) is proud to announce that through their integration VEND POS can now accept tips. Even better- it can accept tips with swiped, chip card, and also apple pay payments. The MPI gateway tipping option allows tipping at the point of sale so the customer can enter tip before the transaction is started. Another option is to have a tip line printed and then adjust tip after the transaction approval.
The credit card machine and VEND will communicate when the transaction is initiated and will work just like a typical sale. The user will ring in the items, select pay, credit and then select credit as the tender. The amount due is then transmitted to the terminal and either the customer enters tip amount on terminal or completes payment and writes tip amount on receipt slip.
This now creates a discrepancy between the terminal and the VEND system. VEND only reports the sales for items sold and paid for with credit card, it will not show the tip amount in the credit card terminal. This means that after the tips have been adjusted and the tip report printed, one additional step is required. You will need to set up an open item called “Tip” and a payment option “Tip Payment.” You will ring in the tip item and make the price for the open item reflect that of the tip amount. Next you will click pay and use the tip payment option. Now you will have a record of tip amount for reporting and a record of the extra credit card transaction so you can reconcile your deposits. The below screen shots should help with set up.
See our MPI gateway blog for more information on pricing and processor compatibility.
ADDING ‘tip payment’ as a payment type-
Here is the close of register screen. The combined amount of ‘tip payment’ along with credit or in this case ‘z1 terminal’ total amounts will be your credit card processing deposit. From an employee tax perspective, you can go to category reports and pull out tip totals. Be sure the tips are reported on your payroll. If you need assistance with this reach out to MPI and we will connect you with our payroll department.
